The Faculty Role
The major role of faculty is coach for both the preceptor and the student. The faculty will meet with the student and preceptor at least three to four times, as needed. Please feel comfortable asking questions, seeking advice, and communicating frequently with the faculty in person, by telephone, or email.
Some key activities for the faculty role are to:
- Face-to-face visits a minimum of three times during the practicum, including:
- The first meeting with the preceptor and student
- Early in the first week of Capstone (Faculty will check in during the first week, either in-person or by phone to ensure that the student and preceptor have all they need for a great learning experience)
- Mid-way through the course
- At the end of the Capstone course.
- Coaching the preceptor and the student in appropriate course learning experiences
- Assuming responsibility for final determination of course grade, with input from both the preceptor and the student
- Problem-solving issues as requested by the student and the preceptor
